Ergonomically Designed Functional Office Chair

The Swiss Ball Chair - Balance Ball Chair - Ergonomic Ball Chair - Exercise Ball Chair - Fitness Ball Chair - Stability Ball Chair, Yoga Ball Chair, Stay Ball or just plain ol' Ball Chair might not be in the running for the title of the prettiest piece of office furniture and no doubt you laughed at it the first time you saw it, but laugh or not, if you are tired of the average everyday non-ergonomic office chair and find yourself experiencing mild lower back pain, this many-named Ball Chair may just be the chair that you have been looking for.

The standard office chair can be very cramped and hard on the back. Whereas sitting on a Ball Chair is an excellent way to help you to maintain the correct posture as it forces you to sit up straight as it promotes flexibility, co-ordination, motor skills, core strengthening and balance.

What Is Not To Love About A Ball Chair

Your body, when positioned on top of the ball is constantly making small adjustments, often imperceptible to remain balanced and thus is constantly exercising a large group of muscles in doing so and by strengthening your body's core muscle group you will help to improve your overall posture, have much better balance and also help guard yourself against back injuries.

It will take some time before your body becomes accustom to sitting on an exercise ball since your core muscles may not have been given a lot of exercise previously and will need strengthening so I suggest that you start off sitting on the Ball Chair for only 10 to 15 minutes a day.

Slowly build up to sitting on the Ball Chair for longer period of time and remember that if you have had or currently have a back injury this process will take longer so be patient and do not rush this process as you will most likely do yourself more harm than good.

Ball Chairs For All Shapes and Sizes

Consider the following when you are choosing the right Ball Chair for you:

When you sit on the Ball Chair, you should keep your legs forming a 90 degree angle at the knees with your feet firmly on the floor while you sit with your arms resting comfortably on the desk. Any more or any less will mean that the Ball Chair is not right for you.

Your weight is a very important factor when choosing a Ball Chair. If your weight compresses the Ball Chair and flattens it then you need to get a bigger Ball Chair, simple as that. and if you happen to be very light in weight then you can always under-inflate the Ball Chair.

A Ball Chair will keep your back and abdominal muscles active because of the slight bouncing it provides so you can quite easily maintain a proper posture, which in turn helps to prevent new back problems from happening.

Even though a Ball Chair can be a great alternative to a standard office chair, you should consult a doctor before you purchase one especially if you have had any major or chronic back problems or surgeries.

Ergonomic Office Ball Chairs

These Ball Chairs are perfect for any office situation. I am a WAHM and use mine daily, especially when I am pounding away at the keyboard like I am right now. Even my children fight over whose turn it is to go on it when they want to play computer games.

For people experiencing lower back pain who need to sit for any period of time, do what I did and do yourself a favour and check out one of these Ball Chairs for yourself ... I for one am ever so glad that I did ... I just love mine!

Just remember that it will feel odd at first and that it does take a bit of time to get used to but perceive with it because once you do you will never want to sit in a plain old boring office chair again!

Thanks chirls ... I guess it is just a matter of getting used to (providing that you are not in too much pain to begin with to give it a proper go before dismissing the Ball Chair as just another fad).

Great advice! I love using a ball instead of a chair. Mine doesn't have a base, but it's a Stay Ball - which is just a regular old fitness ball with some sand in it so it doesn't roll away when you get up.
